That’s the amount of money I have to last me till the end of the month, after having paid the electricity and the gas bills.
Minus the usual $50 for my phone bill, I’m left with $91.10. That means I will survive on a grand sum of $8.28 a day till August.
That means no more eating out.
Not till August, anyway.

Update (22/7/2008): Oh drat. I forgot that I need to make allowance for transport. Okay a 5 x Daily Metcard costs $28.00. So that really means that I have $6.31 to live on every day till the end of July.

oh man...we were planning to eat out this week :(
Yeah.. so sad. :( I wanted to eat out too... Then I realised paying for the gas and electricity bills kinda drained my bank account somewhat.
Lizzie?
Anyway... guess there's always the boyfriend... ;)
But yea, why not cook? I loved cooking in Melbourne. There's so much available and food is relatively cheaper over there too...
I cook 90% of the time so its nice to get away from the cooking once in a while. :)
I'm not sure about food being relatively cheaper.. weekly groceries cost my brother and I around $80 on average.
Though cooking at home is definitely cheaper than eating out.
Hmm.. maybe it's perspective... cooking was an indulgence for me rather than necessity, as i paid for dinner as part of my rent and basically ate 2 meals a day.
Lunch was either 2 sushi rolls from Melbourne Central on the way to class or chicken and chips on my days off.
I cooked when i had company or when inspiration hits, and somehow i feel the cost of trying to be gourmet in Melbourne is cheaper than back over here.
I.e heavy cream is what? $3 a litre? its rm9 for 250ml over here :P And butter is rm7.50 a block now.. it's stupid.
Plus relative to the Aussie's earning power, it's definitely cheaper.
Cooking was an indulgence? :) I see your point. Its nice to cook once in a while. I cook almost every day so that my brother and I have dinner to eat.. so especially when I get home from work its a bit of a chore.
I like that you mention inspiration and totally agree that when it strikes, cooking is lots of fun. :D I like to experiment with cooking every once in a while. Thank God for cook books!
Ooh! I tried a new stir-fry chicken recipe yesterday. It was yummy and so incredibly easy.
-300g chicken fillets
-3 tablespoons soy sauce
-3 tablespoons hoi sin sauce
-3 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
-Any veg of your choice
I got it out of a book called "4 Ingredients"
I'm guessing that you experiment more with Western food though. :D
Yea.. most of the time, but I do try 'eastern' stuff as well. For instance i did honey soy chicken: http://www.invertedn.com/blog/?p=172 and deep fried oyster mushrooms http://www.invertedn.com/blog/?p=116
XD
Speaking of fast chicken, something i did a few times in Melbourne, get some chicken fillets, season with salt, pepper and a bit soy sauce, then coat in flour and shallow fry in a pan, should take about 15 minutes tops.
Then, at safeways you can buy Woolworth's brand lemon sauce (it's usually by the deli in small green packets) open packet and pour on top of your chicken. Viola, lemon chicken. XD tastes like home too.
Responsibilities..... So different from 5 years ago kan.... I feel you...
How ya doing cuz? Apart from the financial situation I mean :D
Brilliant!!! A new recipe to try. Thanks, Nick! :D I'll definitely keep an eye out for that lemon sauce when I next go to Safeway. :)
Ivan!! Haven't heard from you in a bit. How are you doing? Uni life treating you well, I hope. Judging from your photo albums you're having a great time. :)
Hahhaa.. apart from the financial situation, things are good. Adrian and I are going to see Wicked the musical tomorrow after work! :D Very excited!!!
*grin* On another note, I didn't know that you read my blog. Actually, I didn't realise that any of the cousins read my blog. You're the first to comment. :)
Btw, is your sis going to be in the same Uni as you when she goes over in Sept? Forgot to ask her.
Get your brother to cook once in a while. Share the load - after all, he eats too!!
Hi Hsu-Ee! I get my bro to cook once in a while. More like once a month or less because I only ask him to cook when I'm too tired. He's quite a good cook and does a mean tom yam fried rice. :) He also cooks if I'm sick.
Hey there,
Nice to be the first of something :D
Sorta pop by once in a while i guess... Don't change anything on my account ;-)
Sis will be in Leicester.. bout a good couple of hours away from me...
This part of uni life (holiday), I can really get used to :D
All's good on my end... Hope yours isn't that different..
:) Hehehe.. don't worry, cuz. I wouldn't change anything. I wonder if Tua Kor, Uncle Trev and my parents have stumbled across my blog yet.
All's well with me. Looking forward to my parents and John coming to visit in about 3 weeks time. *beam* Oh, and I'm volunteering for Daffodil Day again this year! Its at the end of the month.
