Philosophizing

It frustrates me sometimes how so many of life's dramas are self-inflicted.

For every action, there is a reaction. If you smoke, chances are you will develop some form of respiratory disease. If you indulge in too many sugary foods, you will develop diabetes. If you spend beyond your means, you will be in debt. If you are undiscerning about the friends you make or the partner you take, you are likely to get hurt.

Everything boils down to the choices that we make. We can choose to pursue fleeting, short-term happiness. Or we could choose to seriously consider the long-term things that are most important to us and work towards them. We choose how we want to live our lives.

Perhaps this is a simplistic view of the world. But maybe life isn't as complicated as we have been led to believe.
