Mystery plant

I was going to plant some shallots in my backyard today when I stumbled across this plant.

It is growing right in the middle of what is going to be my vegetable patch. I can't decide whether it is a useful plant or not. It doesn't look like any of the weeds that I massacred last month... and I've ruled out onions, carrots, potatoes and tomatoes as possible options.

What do you reckon? Do you think it's a vegetable? I doubt that it is but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Potato

You know, plants don't spring out of no where. Pluck a leaf, then take a walk and compare with the plants in a 300m radius.

Ichthius: It kinda does look like a potato plant, doesn't it.. Ooh! I'm conducting an experiment. I've planted a potato at the other end of the vegetable patch to see if the leaves turn out to be exactly the same. That way we'd know for sure. :)

Nicholas: That's a fantastic idea. :) The only hitch is that there isn't a 300m radius that I can explore. My backyard is surrounded by a high wall which separates my garden from two neighbours' backyards.

I think it is a type of weed. I know there are some like that in my garden.

PK: Hmm... I'm thinking I should try pulling it out to see what kind of roots it has. If its roots look nothing like a potato, its a goner.
