Human nature is such that we are tempted to do what we are told not to.
Right now I am incredibly tempted to watch The Ten Conditions of Love that is being screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF).
Bizarre as it sounds, the Chinese government has been encouraging Chinese hackers to hack into the MIFF ticketing website because the Festival has chosen to screen the documentary about Uighur activist Rebiya Kadeer. The site has been hacked twice so far.
I am sure the Chinese government's actions has caused the documentary to be more popular than it would have been if they had left it alone. Australians have a very "oh, up yours" attitude when it comes to external forces telling them what to do on Australian soil.
Update: Crumbs. I went to the ticket office this morning and the tickets were all sold out. :( Ah well, at least it reinforces my theory.
