Shoe box

Shoe boxes are not particularly exciting things. But when you can fill one with goodies and send it to an underprivileged child for Christmas, a shoe box becomes pretty exciting stuff.

I got my shoe box yesterday. :)

We choose the child's age bracket and whether the box goes to a boy or girl. Also, every box has to have at least one item that falls into the following categories:

- something to love (ie. teddy bear)

- something special (ie. necklace)

- something for school (ie. colour pencils)

- something to play with (ie. ball)

- something to wear (ie. t-shirt)

and

- something for personal hygiene (ie. comb)

The project is called Operation Christmas Child and it is run by non-profit organisation, Samaritan's Purse.

What I like most about the project is that although Samaritan's Purse is a Christian organisation, the boxes are given to children of all religions and ethnicity. The other thing I like about it is that there is no religious material in the boxes so there are no strings attached.

I will be filling my box up with nice, pretty things for a 10 to 14 year old girl. :)
